TOUR TO THE USAKA DESERT

Part I: Aqueduct of Ocongalla.
09:00 h. The excursion to the Usaka desert starts at your hotel in Nazca.
Our guide and driver meet you there, and then we start the tour.
We drive our dune buggy machine to the southwest, following a bumpy road.
Our first stop takes place at the zone of Ocongalla, a rural zone near the river.

Here we will visit the ancient subterranean aqueducts of Ocongalla.
It is a great work of hydraulic engineering with more than 1500 years old.
After visiting Ocongalla, we continue driving west towards Cahuachi.

Part II: Ruins of Cahuachi.
Once in Cahuachi, we will go for short walk around the ruins.
According to archaeologists, Cahuachi was a ceremonial center that flourished around 200 BC.

The site is made up by large plazas, temples and truncated pyramids centuries old.
Some scholars beelieve this was the city of the people who built the Nazca Lines.
Recent excavations have brought to light remarkable findings, including well preserved mummies.
After walking around the ruins, we will continue driving west towards the dunes of Usaka.

Part III: Dunes of Usaka and Sandboarding.
Before arriving in Usaka, we will stumble with the zone of Estaqueria.
Estaqueria is an archaeological site made up by an array of trunks built around 100 BC.
Nobody knows the exact purpose of it, however, scholars believes it was a sacred burial site.

Near the site still can be seen various ancient tombs, still containing bones and other remains.
Eventually we will arrive in zone of Usaka.
Usaka has various spots with small dunes, perfect to ride across with our dune buggy car.
This initial part of the tour is very fun, as we drive on very steep dunes, going up and down.

After driving around the dunes, we will look for a good spot to practice sandboarding.
Beginners can practice on small dunes while others can slide down on bigger ones.
Additionally, there is free time to walk around, enjoy a peaceful atmosphere.
Finally, we will return to your hotel in the city of Nazca.
