City Tour of Ica
Tour Description
Part I:
Our excursion begins promptly at 9:00 AM, with our local guide picking you up from your hotel. After a warm welcome, we will board our private vehicle and head straight to the Pisco vineyards. At the bodegas, you’ll enjoy a delightful walking tour, guided by a knowledgeable local expert, as we delve into the fascinating world of this beloved Peruvian drink. Historically, Pisco has been produced since 1540, originally known simply as a spirit drink. It wasn’t until the 17th century that it was officially named Pisco, inspired by the sight of countless sea birds along the Pacific coast near Paracas—a name derived from the Quechua word for “bird.”
During our visit, you’ll learn more about Pisco’s rich heritage, explore the vineyard, and enjoy tastings in the main tasting room, where you can engage in conversation with the skilled Pisco makers.
Part II:
Next, we will proceed to the Ica Regional Museum, a captivating venue that showcases the ancient cultures that thrived along the southern coast of Peru. We will begin by exploring the pre-Inca rooms, where you can admire exquisite textiles from the Paracas culture, along with remarkable artifacts from the Nazca civilization, including stunning musical instruments and depictions of the Nazca Lines. Additionally, you’ll discover impressive weaponry and wood carvings from the Wari Empire, Ica Chincha, and Inca cultures.
On the other side of the museum, we will visit the anthropological room, which features fascinating human remains from these ancient cultures. Here, you’ll see deformed skulls, evidence of cranial surgery practiced by ancient Peruvians, beautifully crafted head-dresses, well-preserved mummies (including infants), and trophy heads.
Part III:
Finally, we will drive southwest toward the breathtaking oasis of La Huacachina, a picturesque lagoon surrounded by towering palm trees and magnificent sand dunes. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy lunch by the lagoon and, for the adventurous, climb one of the dunes to experience the thrill of sandboarding, one of Peru’s most exciting outdoor activities. Finally our driver will drop you off at your hotel. End of the tour.
